Prof. Jan Jankowski – Head of the Chair of Poultry Science at the Faculty of Animal Bioengineering. An internationallyrenowned expert on poultry science, specialising in turkey breeding, raising and feeding.

His academic achievements include more than 400 research articles, including 161 published in JCR-listed journals and cited 1326 times, scoring more than 4000 points on the lists of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, with a total impact factor exceeding 150 and an H-index of 18. He is also the co-author of 17 books, including 4 published outside of Poland. Professor Jankowski is also the editor of the textbook “Hodowla i użytkowanie drobiu” (Poultry breeding and usage, PWRiL, 2012).

His greatest non-academic achievements include successfully raising 7 domestic turkey strains, whose cross-breeds,bearing the trade name WAMA,constituted more than 90% of all Polish turkeys bred between 1985 and 1990, as well as developing new methods of feeding turkeys raised for meat, which have increased rearing effectiveness and animal welfare, in addition to reducing environmental pollution. His expansive knowledge of the practical aspects of poultry rearing,and effective partnerships with businesses render it possible for most of the research results of his team to be implemented in practice on an ongoing basis. The Chair of Poultry Science has for years been a leading UWM institution with regard to commercialising research results.
